Famous Drums
Keith Moon aka “Mad Moon” was eccentric to say the least. He never had one set of drums, preferring instead to borrow or break whatever set he needed for performances. In 1964 he became the drummer for “The Who” this is where he was able to influence rock. His style of playing was peculiar, where he pointed his sticks downward. His set was splayed out covering most of the stage, and instead of right to left or left to right he played “forward”. In the sixties and seventies Kieth Moon had helped create the image of the hedonistic madness of rockstars.
One of the drums he played is now the most expensive drum kit in the world. The “Moon the Loon’s” custom made 1968 Premier drum kit was auctioned off at Christie’s in London in 2004 for an impressive £139,650 that’s $252,487 US.
Rumor has it that the crazy Muppet, Animal was loosely based on Kieth Moon. Whether true or not, Keith’s drums (even those used once) have left a permanent imprint in music history.
